STORYTELLING THROUGH AUTOGRAPHS: “THE WRONG JEDI”

Star Wars Autograph News has seen many updates over the last few months. We’ve added the new “Collecting” menu which is full of resources for collectors to add Star Wars autographs to their collections from reputable sources.

We’ve also updated and reorganzied the “Autographs” menu, which features autographs from my personal collection. It’s very much a work in progress, but it’s been a fun project.

This has required me to scan my autographs so I can get them all up onto the site. While scanning my Star Wars: The Clone Wars autographs I noticed I had three autographs that captured one of my favorite scenes from The Clone Wars. I got the autographs at different points over the years, but when I saw them all together I realized they were the last moments Anakin and Ahsoka would have as friends.

“The Wrong Jedi” was the final episode of Season Five of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. and provided one of the most emotional (and pivotal) scenes in all of canon; including film, animation, novels and comics: Ahsoka Tano leaving the Jedi Order. The autographs, signed by Ashley Eckstein, are among the final shots of the episode.

Here is the dialogue from that last scene between Ahsoka and Anakin leading up to my three autographs.

The third act…

Anakin: Ahsoka! Wait! Ahsoka! I need to talk to you!

Anakin: (catches up to Ahsoka, out of breath.) Why are you doing this?

Ahsoka: The Council didn’t trust me, so how can I trust myself?

Anakin: What about me? (Raising his voice) I believed in you. I stood by you.

Ahsoka: I know you believe in me Anakin, and I’m grateful for that, but this isn’t about you. I can’t stay here any longer. Not now.

Anakin: The Jedi Order is your life. You just can’t throw it away like this. Ahsoka, you are making a mistake.

Ahsoka: Maybe. But I have to sort this out on my own. Without the Council and without you.

Anakin: I understand. More than you realize I understand wanting to walk away from the Order.

Ahsoka: I know

Ashley signed the third autograph first, at Star Wars Celebration in Essen, Germany. I remember her saying she hadn’t signed this shot yet and it didn’t take her long to think of the perfect quote. The last thing Ahsoka would say to Anakin before walking out of the temple, letting him know she had been aware of all he had been going through.

“I know.”

Autograph collecting can be looked at as collecting “scribbles on paper” but some moments, like this, we can see the true reason we collect: Our love for Star Wars.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars returns in February 2020 on Disney+ with all new adventures. Disney+ goes live on November 12th for those in the US and Canada and you can pre-order the streaming service HERE.
