OVERVIEW
2016 marked my third visit to Toronto for Fan Expo Canada and it proved to be one of my best con experiences. Fan Expo Canada is the largest convention in Canada and third largest in North America, behind only New York and San Diego. Among the many highlights from this year's show included Stan Lee's final scheduled Canadian convention appearance, Frank Miller, Mark Hamill, Alan Tudyk, the North American Premiere of Season Three of Star Wars Rebels and photo ops with Kevin Smith and Jay Mewes.
PARKING
I was able to find parking each day at at the InterContinental Toronto Centre parking garage. I arrived at 7am on Friday morning and was able to park directly across from the main entrance to the venue (level 5A.) I arrived much later on Saturday (10:30) and Sunday (12:30) but was still able to find parking, although on the top level of the garage. Parking cost between $25-$30 each day ($30 is the maximum you will pay for 24 hours.) I was able to get to and from the garage quite quickly to drop off bags, or pick up things I needed, allowing me to carry as little as possible on the show floor, which is alway a tremendous benefit.

LINES
I had to wait in line to pick up my pass on Friday morning, but the following days was able to enter throught he Premium Package ticket holders' entrance. The line to pick up passes moved smoothly below the CN Tour and there were designated booths for Premium Package ticket holders when we arrived at the hall. The booths opened precisely (and I do mean precisely) at 9am. Here was one of the few bumps that could have been avoided. The Premium Package allowed you access to the lounge at 8:30am, but we were put in line with everyone who was waiting for the doors to open at 10am. It wasn't until close to 9:30 when someone told us we could bypass the line and go up to the lounge. That information should have been given to us when we picked up our passes, but again, one of the only bumps I experienced throughout the weekend.

The Metro Toronto Convention Centre is located in downtown Toronto and is 600,000 square feet in size. There are two main buidlings; North and South which are connected by a hallway that crosses over the rail line. The hallway becomes quite congested on Saturdays due to the crowds and they need to occassionally limit the use of the escalators for safety, so it is important to plan ahead when scheduling your panels if you are in one building and need to get to the other. There are plenty of rest rooms and ATMs throughout the Centre and it's fairly easy to find your way around. There are several food (some cash only) and merchadise vendors throughout the South Building. Food trucks were parked outside the show each day and there are also plenty of restaurants and bars in the immediate area.

Overall the volunteers were helplful, friendly and respectful as far as I could tell. I had many great conversations with volunteers throughout the weekend and although many, if not all, were exhausted from their hard work, they kept things positive, which I always appreciate. Communication between volunteers and their supervisors could be improved. For example, my ticket said to arrive to the Kevin Smith and Jay Mewes photo op at 10:45. I arrived and was told by one volunteer that they hadn't started to line up my group, so I continued to wait. A few minutes later another volunteer asked me which group I was in and told me my group had already lined up and it was now full, so I had to wait a bit more. Not the end of the world, but certainly not something I would expect since these volunteers were standing less than 15 feet from each other.

Prior to this show I have only purchased two photo ops at conventions. I will always prefer a shot of the person signing at their table to these professional photos, but have accepted that in some situations that is your only option. I purchased two photo ops at Fan Expo; Mark Hamill, which came with the Gold Jedi Package, and Kevin Smith and Jay Mewes, better known as Jay and Silent Bob.

Mark Hamill
There were many great panels of interest to Star Wars fans scheduled throughout the weekend, including Mark Hamill, Alan Tudyk, Brent Spiner, George Takei, Stan Lee, Frank Miller and Joe Quesada. The other major event for fans of the GFFA was the North American Season Three premiere of Star Wars Rebels, which I was unable to see because it conflicted with my photo op with Kevin Smith.

The most eye-catching exclusives available at Fan Expo this year (in my opinion) were the Hasbro Black Series 6" SDCC exclusives Jyn Erso, Kylo Ren and Obi-Wan Kenobi. You were able to pre-register for a pass to jump the line at the Hasbro Store at various times throughout the weekend. The Black Series figures were limited to one per customer and Jyn Erso was sold out before the end of the day on Friday and the other two were still available on Saturday.
Hallmark featured an exclusive Protype Boba Fett ornament at their booth at the show and Lego had many Star Wars events happening all weekend. Star Wars Rebels posters were given to VIPs and Premium ticket holders and given out by volunteers to guests.

IN CONCLUSION
The 2016 edition of Fan Expo Canada proved to be one of my favoirte comic con experiences to date. This was based on the quality and quantity of Star Wars signers, content and exclusives, the value of packages offered and the overall professionalism of volunteers. There is also a great vibe that is difficult to explain which I attribute to the friendliness and laid back manner of many of the attendees. I look forward to returning to Toronto for this show in 2017.
