Today we are reviewing the purchase of a signed photo of Jim J. Bullock as Prince Valium in Spaceballs purchased through Wizard World’s “Stars From Classic TV Sitcom” Virtual Experience held between January 17-24, 2021.
Bullock has been on my wish list for his role in Spaceballs for some time and I had been tracking his through-the-mail returns, which seemed to be trending to the unsuccessful side. I didn’t expect to see a Spaceballs photo option with this signing but was pleasantly surprised when I saw there was one and it had ample signing space above his character.
I placed my order on January 5th. His autograph was $40, with an additional $4.80 ticketing fee and $6.67 for shipping for a total of $51.47.
On March 5th I received an email saying my order was on the way, which also included my tracking number.
My autograph arrived on March 13th. It arrived in a white reinforced mailer and was sent USPS First-Class. A red sticker was affixed to the front of the package and read “Please Handle With Care, Do Not Crush Bend or Fold, Thank You.” Unfortunately this request was not fulfilled as there was a crease running the width of the mailer directly through the sticker.
Thankfully, Wizard World included a thin piece of cardboard with the autograph which absorbed any of the damage that may have been done during the mailing process. Both the cardboard and autograph were in a plastic sleeve that was taped at the top opening.
The photo used for the signing was a glossy print of a screen grab from the film. Although not ideal it was more than adequate for my needs and expectations, especially considering the age of the film.
The autograph is signed with a black marker and although there seems to be an attempt to sign on a white section of his wardrobe half of the signature is difficult to read as it crosses over into Dick Van Patten’s black sleeve of his royal robe. Although there hadn’t been a way to request signature placement I had expected to see the signature above his character’s head where there is plenty of empty space and it would have been very easy to read. A good reminder that there is never a guarantee with these things.
Overall I am pleased with this purchase. The price was fair and shipping time fell within the window I was given upon ordering. This was the first Virtual Experience autograph I have purchased and received from Wizard World and have since placed two more orders, including another Virtual Experience (Jeff Anderson from Clerks) and one autograph from the Wizard World Vault (Chazz Palminteri from A Bronx Tale One Man Show.) Based on my experiences so far I would order from them again.
