Chris Muncke, the actor who portrayed Captain Khurgee in A New Hope has died. The announcement was made by his son Sam on Facebook.
“We are heartbroken to announce that Chris Muncke passed away yesterday morning. We already miss his warm smile, his sharp wit, his amazing storytelling and his unconditional love.”
Originally from Chicago, Muncke joined The Second City as a Theatrical Apprentice in 1960. He received a degree in Dramatic Art from the University of California. In 1967 he moved to London and attended the Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and co-founded the London Theatre Group in 1970 with Steven Berkoff.
Following his retirement from acting he became a primary school teacher in Hertfordshire, a second career that would last over 20 years until he retired in 2007.
A memorial service will be held at the Chilterns Crematorium in Amersham at 10:45 am on April 25th. There will also be a live webcast for those unable to attend in person.
