Through-the-mail (TTM) autograph collecting is a fun way for fans to add autographs to their collections. An actor sending an autograph in response to a fan letter is one of the oldest traditions in Hollywood, however its one that only exists through the mutual respect shown by both sides.
Often these requests are sent to the signer’s talent agency and are signed as the opportunity arises and their schedules allow. Some signers have created P.O. boxes for their fan mail, allowing them to respond to fans while keeping their home address private. And there are some signers who have a long history of responding to fan mail sent directly to their homes.
It is important for fans to remember, although some actors may be willing to sign autographs sent to their personal residence, others will find this practice disrespectful and unsettling.
A recent reminder of this comes from Kari Wahlgren, who is best known to Star Wars fans as the voice of Letta Turmond in The Clone Wars episodes Sabotage and The Jedi Who Knew Too Much.
Many signers Star Wars fans seek autographs from have ways to contact them prior to sending anything. Whether its the contact section of their websites, an email address or social media, there are means for fans to attempt to reach out and ask for the best way to send fan mail, which is truly the essence of TTM collecting.
