Michael Pennington, the 75-year-old actor, director and writer who portrayed Moff Jerjerrod in Return of the Jedi, made his first ever convention appearance at MCM London, which took place at the ExCel Centre over the weekend.
Pennington is represented by Alliance Agents, which was founded in 2014 and has a client base of over 120 actors. Appearance Agent Julian Owen told Star Wars Autograph News that, by all accounts, Pennington’s first appearance was a success.
“Michael loved meeting all the fans and collectors.” Owen said. “He was humbled by the fact the fans adored him and wanted to hear stories from his time on Return of the Jedi. He’s amazed that his five days working on the film in 1982 has led to such a huge number of people wanting to see him 36 year later.”
Pennington’s first convention appearance did not happen over night. “It took me three years of asking Michael if he’d do a convention!” explained Owen.
“ReedPOP and MCM were outstanding. When Michael had to cancel his original appearance (due to a bad eye injury which he’s still recovering from) they stepped in to make sure we had Michael secured for future Reed POP events.”
Owen praised ReedPOP’s part in Pennington’s appearance by saying “It really is thanks to everyone at ReedPOP and MCM that Michael’s appearance was such a success. Special thanks must go to (ReedPOP Talent Manager) Leo Burggraeve for running such a great autograph area and making sure all the guest arrangements were spot on.”
So, what’s a convention without cosplay? “He loved seeing all the cosplayers and costumers.” said Owen. “A particular highlight was being inducted into the 501st!”
MCM London was his first convention appearance, but thankfully, it won’t be his last. “Michael’s second show will also be with ReedPOP (MCM Birmingham)” announced Owen. “Michael will be attending more conventions and will be making his way to see his American fans next year!”
