Celebration Anaheim will soon be upon us, but The Official Dave Prowse Facebook Page brought things back to Celebration V for a moment by reminding us that Mr. Prowse will not be appearing at any future Celebrations.
It is important to note that The Official Dave Prowse website and Facebook page are not run by the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, but a man named David Evans. The vast majority of the posts are made made by Evans, although it would be difficult for many followers to know this because posts are written in the first person and appear to be written directly by Prowse . I did receive confirmation that one post, dated January 3, 2014, was indeed written by Mr. Prowse as he addressed the accuracy of recent reports of his failing health, but these posts are few and far between.
So here is the comment posted to the Official Dave Prowse Facebook page today. The same post was originally uploaded several days ago, but quickly disappeared.
"As I will not be attending any future Star Wars Celebration shows you can find my remaining stock of photos from previous Celebration events I have attended here (personalization available) –
Get them before they are gone!"
In case you've forgotten (as I had) this originally became news when The Official Dave Prowse website released the following information before CV:
"It is with regret that I have been informed by my friends at C2 Ventures, Ben and Phillip, that I am not to be invited to C5 this year or any other Lucas Film associated events. After enquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have "burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself" – no other reason given."
At the time (June 23, 2010) Theforce.net reporter Dustin Roberts researched the issue and was able to get an official quote. According to Philip Wise, of Official Pix and webmaster of Theforce.net, "Lucasfilm does have the right to prevent celebrity invitations to official Star Wars conventions and they did exercise this right as it relates to Dave Prowse and Celebration V."
So there you have it. No apparent change in the relationship between Dave Prowse and Lucasfilm. Although Dave Prowse being "persona non grata" to the Lucasfilm camp surprises no one, I was holding onto some hope things could change. Star Wars is afterall a tale of hope and redemption.
Here's a video clip of the Dave Prowse and Colin Skeaping Q&A at Elstree Empire Day at the studio in 2012.
