Exciting is exactly the word I would choose.
I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story is now available and Anthony Daniels has launched a global book tour to celebrate it’s release.
“The wait is finally over! Today I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story, the extraordinary memoir from Anthony Daniels, hits shelves across the galaxy. In it you’ll discover the incredible untold story of one of Star Wars’ most iconic characters, by the man who knows him best—with a foreword by J.J. Abrams.”
Last night was the second stop of his tour after kicking things off at Watertstones in Manchester (UK) on Saturday. The sold out book signing at the Barnes & Noble on the Upper West Side in New York opened with photo ops for attendees with “C-3PO” (wonderfully portrayed by Justin Sonfield.)
Those attending the event were presented with a copy of his book which he signed and personalized for all (including those who purchased tickets but could not attend) after a brief Q&A session. His sharp wit and showmanship were on full display as he answered questions from the audience.
One attendee asked about the most unique autograph he ever signed. His answer: “A plane” (followed by “It’s in the book” which he jokingly reminded the crowd while he answered questions.”

The book tour continues with three more North American stops (Cincinnati (sold out), San Francisco (registration closed) and Toronto) before returning to the UK. One of his UK stops, at MCM Birmingham, offers the additional opportunity for fans to have their personal items signed (£60 each) but copies of I am C-3PO will be signed and personalized at no charge. About I Am C-3PO – The Inside Story
Discover the incredible untold story of one of Star Wars‘ most iconic characters, C-3PO, told by the man who knows him best.
“Gloriously witty, keen and spirited” J.J. Abrams, Director of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
“The odds of me ever writing a book were approximately… Oh, never mind. My golden companion worries about such things – I don’t. I have indeed now written a book – telling my story, in my voice, not his – recognising that our voices and our stories are inextricably intertwined.”
When Star Wars burst on to the big screen in 1977, an unfailingly polite golden droid called C-3PO captured imaginations around the globe. But C-3PO wasn’t an amazing display of animatronics with a unique and unforgettable voiceover. Inside the metal costume was an actor named Anthony Daniels.
In this deeply personal memoir, Anthony Daniels recounts his experiences of the epic cinematic adventure that has influenced pop culture for more than 40 years. For the very first time, he candidly describes his most intimate memories as the only actor to appear in every Star Wars film – from his first meeting with George Lucas to the final, emotional days on the set of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
With a foreword by J.J. Abrams and never-before-seen photography, this book is a nostalgic look back at the Skywalker saga as it comes to a close. I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story reveals Anthony Daniels’ vulnerability, how he established his role and what he accomplished, and takes readers on a journey that just happens to start in a galaxy far, far away.
About the Author
Anthony Daniels trained as a stage actor but is best known for his contribution to every Star Wars film and myriad spin-offs over more than forty years. His role as the gold robot See-Threepio happily outweighs his career in radio, television and theatre. He lives with his wife, Christine, in England and the south of France.
