CONVENTION REVIEW: LONDON FILM FAIR FEBRUARY 2019

This was my first show of 2019 and around a 2.5 hour trip from Norwich to London. This set of shows is different to the big shows from Showmasters, and offer a different look, feel and guest selection. Never as busy as LFCC and certainly not as mainstream, from a Star Wars perspective there were four behind the camera guests at the February 2019 show.

Brian Johnson (£10 Autograph)
Alan Tomkins (£10)
Harley Cokeliss (15)
Robin Grantham (£10)

I only wanted a couple of guests, so decided to go to meet some old friends and get a show under my belt.

First up was Robin and having already added him to my Cantina Street multi, I went for a nice 8×10, which shows Greedo having his hands/gloves applied by Robin Grantham and Kaye Freeborn. We had a good chat about his time on set and working with Stuart and Kaye.

I told him the story of the new crew not being able to better the Chewbacca suit in The Force Awakens, which I heard at Celebration Europe in 2016. Worth an hour to listen to the whole talk, which you can do HERE. If you’d like to skip directly to Neal Scanlon’s story about the Chewbacca suit you’ll find it at minute 32:00.

Now I need to get Paul Blake to sign the photo! Another multi started!

Next was Harley Cokeliss, I already had his autograph, but decided to add him to my poster. He looked at all the names on the poster and said he liked the poster.  We had a quick chat about his beard on set and joked about growing it again. He said “You get to a certain age and you just can’t pull off that beard!”  Some great photos on him on set with Carrie.

Finally moved to another room for Brian Johnson, again he is a name I have added to many pieces but had an R2 Multi 8×10 OPX image that I wanted to add him to.  Brian had a lot of people wanting his graph. We had a quick chat and he asked about some of the names I already had. I do like it when guests ask about your piece.

I did not get anything from Alan, but he was very busy and lots of people around his desk.

Overall four interesting guests from the GFFA and all four seemed to be very busy; lots of posters looked and multi pieces being signed.  I love seeing what other people decide to get signed.

I saw a lot of people I knew and had a good catch up. The show also has stalls but not many; mostly old movie posters, vintage shows on DVD/Blu Ray and autographs.  Some of the movie posters are amazing and you wonder how they’ve survived all these years.

These shows might not be on your radar but worth an investigate especially if you are close to London.  As always these guys have great stories of their time on set and with this show not being crazy busy, you get a chance to talk and learn a few things; so much more the just the autograph.

Showmasters have another four of these shows in 2019 and they usually get a lot of different people who may not always do the big the shows.  Certainly good for adding different autographs to your collection.
