Peter Mayhew was among the ten signing guests announced for Star Wars Celebration autograph hall today. His appearance in Chicago will mark the twelfth time he has signed at Celebration.

In fact, there has only been one Celebration Mayhew has not attended; the very first one in Denver back in 1999. That show had Star Wars celebrities in attendance, but did not have an autograph hall. If Jeremy Bulloch does not come out of retirement from conventions to attend SWCC, that would make Mayhew the only Star Wars celebrity to sign at every Celebration that featured an autograph hall.

Mayhew also attended what’s come to be known as “Celebration 0” back in 1987 when Creation Conventions ran “Starlog Salutes Star Wars” in Los Angeles.

Many mark the “Men Behind the Mask World Tour” as the birth of Star Wars autograph collecting at conventions, which featured Mayhew and several other Star Wars celebrities. Since that time Mayhew has steadily appeared at conventions the world over, meeting fans and signing autographs.

Star Wars Celebration Chicago is going to feature 50 signers in autograph hall over it’s five-day run, many of whom will be attending Celebration for the first time. That’s an exciting prospect for Star Wars autograph collectors. There’s also comfort in seeing old friends at Celebration and I look forward to visiting his table. After researching this piece I know there will be one thought on my mind when I see him signing at his table at Celebration…
